ABOUT THE ARTIST

I'M ALEX.

Editorial portrait of a woman holding a camera against a vivid red background

West Michigan photographer, professional overthinker, chronic coffee drinker, and the woman behind Alexandria Root Photography.

I like photographs with a little grit to them. The kind that aren't too perfect, too polished, or trying too hard. Give me movement, weird little glances, loud laughter, crooked smiles, wind-blown hair — the stuff that actually feels like being there.

If you're willing to give me a little trust, I'll make the ordinary look like art.

THE PERSON BEHIND THE CAMERA.

I’m a wife, a mom, and someone who has never been particularly good at sitting still. Give me a mountain bike trail, a paddle board, a project I probably underestimated, or somewhere new to explore and I’m happy.

I love being outside, making things with my hands, getting a little dirty, and finding beauty in places that aren’t trying very hard to be beautiful.

Music is almost always playing around me — and the genre depends entirely on the day. Country, alternative, reggae, rock, pop, singer-songwriter… my playlists make absolutely no sense.

I’m an overthinker, a little sarcastic, sentimental without being sappy, and drawn to anything with character — old photographs, imperfect details, weird little moments, and things that feel like they’ve lived a life.
